    Trout fishing in Iceland

    Laxárdalur is one Icelands most famous trout fishing destinations. Famous for its flourishing numbers of large brown trout that can be caught with dry flies, nymphs or streamers.

    The lower beat, Laxárdalur, features long flats where you will look to spot cruising or holding fish in the prime lies. The upper beat, Mývatnssveit, features more pocket water, fast riffles and braided runs, where a properly mended line will make your fly drift correctly and induce takes.

    Laxárdalur is a perfect blend of trout fishing in the wildest of places with  a variety of techniques being used for large wild brown trout in a good numbers. Be ready for an action packed trip!

    The river is divided into two sections – Laxárdalur and Myvatnssveit. The Upper section consists of pocket water, fishing through these pockets looking for big fish, dry flies and nymphs are excellent here. The lower beat is wide own flats water, shallow and crystal clear. Here you will be sight fishing to cruising fish. Muddlers, dry flies are excellent here.

    Although they are characteristically different, the numerous Brown Trout behave in the same way and look for midges, gnats and nymphs to gorge themselves on.

    These fish are wild, strong and in great condition.

    Basic fishing lodge with a comfortable, cosy style

    Laxádalur lodge is very comfortable and purpose-built; 10 rooms each with twin beds make for a rustic feel to the lodge but very cosy vernal use rooms like a long area perfectly designed for fisherman to kick back and relax after a long day on the water.

  • Do I need a visa to travel in Iceland?

    You do not need a visa to travel to Iceland if you are a British Citizen. You will be granted 90 days free of charge upon arrival.

  • Do I need a hire car?

    You do not need a hire car. We can organise transfer drivers to collect you from the lodge and hotels. Although if you would like more freedom, you may hire a car. All lodges have good road access.
